Dear Scouts, Families, and Participants of the Grand Canyon Trip 2000

With the Grand Canyon trip approaching us in just over three months from now, we need to move forward with out planning and training sessions to create a well organized and safe trip. Your help and participation is essential.
Our next planning meeting for the Grand Canyon is:

JANUARY 17th - Monday
@ 7:00 pm - Pilgrim Church

Anyone planning on being part of our GCNP trip should attend, anyone planning on hiking into the canyon MUST attend this important meeting.
At this point in our planning we are looking to finalize many of the various details for each of the seven groups (six In-canyon hiking groups and our Rim Visitors). We need a designated group leader for each of the seven groups. There will NOT be a guide available for general organization on the trip, so we need to synchronize our independent agendas in advance.

Each of the six in-canyon hiking groups will have separate meeting to organize their food, cooking gear, tents, hiking agenda, and Rim activities. Greg Anthony, Gary Crane, John Henning and myself will be available to participate in your group planning sessions to provide insight and background information. We are trying to provide each group with enough flexibility to design their agenda, while still working within the confines of our resources.

We will have more information on the specific groupings, hiking permits, rim activities, meal planning and Troop movement available at the Jan 17th meeting.

Along with this note you will also find a calendar of mandatory training sessions that we have planned, most of which will happen during the regularly scheduled Tuesday night Scout Meeting. This is for convenience, but in no way implies that the training is for Scouts only, EVERYONE intending on hiking into the canyon should attend. As always, all scouts in the Troop are encouraged to participate in these valuable safety and backcountry lesson.
